In recent years I have left the world of Cobol to explore a career in Java. After a short stint and a canceled project I found myself back doing Cobol, this time for the internet banking team. Could this be a step into the right team which would one day enable me to do what I enjoy so much? Indeed it was. Before long I found myself on various training courses. One of the most beneficial courses was Backbase's web portal development training. Finally I was doing something I loved as a job. 2 years later and I find myself confident in the skills of XSLT, CSS, JavaScript and GUI design.
I have started to explore other Java based development platforms / frameworks such as Google Web Toolkit and the Android SDK. Content management systems have also caught my eye. I have been reseaching CMS applications such as Wordpress in order to learn more about development standards and coding practices. Some of my more recent websites have used Wordpress as a core with my own custom themes and code.
I am focused and dedicated to solving problems. I enjoy implementing new technologies and integrating with other applications. I am hard working and a good team player. I always take ownership of my work and do my best to provide quality.
Since 2012 I have been working at FNB Online as a web developer. I have worked on upgrading frameworks and maintaining existing ones. I have been involved with supporting the banking and sales teams with front-end development but my primary role has been to assist with the "Pre-login" web sites. These sites have included www.fnb.co.za, www.rmbprivatebank.com and FNBs African sites. Some of the skills that i have learnt over the past while have been the likes of JSTL, Ant and Google Tag Manager among others.
